USG - Ubiquiti UniFi Security Gateway VPN Firewall Router

The Ubiquiti UniFi USG has a dual core 500MHz processor giving standard hardware accelerated performance and supports 3 gigabit interfaces for LAN/WAN connections.

The USG's powerful firewall offers advanced firewall policies to protect your network and its data, whilst offering convenient VLAN support to allow creation of virtual network segments for added security.

The UniFi USG also functions as a VPN server, offering a site to site VPN that will secure and encrypt all private data communications sent over the internet.

This UniFi router offers QoS for enterprise VoIP and video calls, giving top priority to voice and video traffic, ensuring crystal clear calls and lag-free video streaming.

The Ubiquiti USG is deployed in the same way as the Unifi Access Points for wireless networking. This allows use of the UniFi Controller software, enabling easy access to device detection, provisioning and management across the entire network.

If you're invested in the Unifi ecosystem, you probably want one of these. Realistically it's good for any residential internet connection in the UK, will cope happily with ~900mbps throughput with HW acceleration. You're going to need multiple boxes however, as you will need some sort of modem, this, and a switch, preferably unifi. Ubiquiti are adding features quickly, but these still don't have all their abilities exposed in the webui, and many advanced features need configuration via SSH. This is not a full unified threat management firewall, and does not offer filtering etc. Powering these via PoE would be nice, but even with a PoE splitter this is a bad idea, as the unifi switch that is powering it won't ever be able to get a DHCP lease etc - as the USG is the DHCP server, and is off until the switch is on.

Not the easiest network device to setup as it is pre-programmed to a certain subnet. However, with a bit of digging you can find how to get around this initial problem and then the device works well. In terms of Linitx the service as usual was 5*

Pretty rock solid when you hav eit up and running. I couldn't get the site to site vpn to another USG to work that is set up from the GUI, so loses a star. Fits in well if you have other UniFi products.
