MikroTik Certified Routing Engineer (MTCRE) Training Course
The Course:
The MikroTik Certified Routing Engineer (MTCRE) training is a three-day advanced training course designed for network engineers and technicians focused on deploying and supporting static and dynamic routed networks, VPNs and tunnels. This course contains many practical labs to enable students to put the theory in to practice.
The MTCRE training course aims to equip participants with the skills to plan, implement and debug routing and tunnelling technologies effectively and efficiently in a MikroTik environment.
The MTCRE training course is constantly being updated and refreshed using the latest syllabus from MikroTik plus loads of other extra very useful topics. The MTCRE is required before taking the MTCINE Certification.
Module 1: Static Routing
- Static route selection
- Equal Cost multiple Path (ECMP) Routes
- Gateway reachability check and route distance
- Routing mark and route policy
- Recursive next-hop and scope/target-scope usage
Module 2: Point to Point Addressing
- Point to Point address configuration
Module 3: VPN
- Site to site connectivity with tunnels
- IPIP, EoIP, PPTP, SSTP, L2TP, PPPoE
- VLAN and it's usage
- QinQ implementation
- VLAN and managed switch
- VLAN and switch chip configuration on RouterBOARDs
Module 4: OSPF
- What is OSPF?
- How OSPF protocol works
- Hello protocol

- OSPF network structure
- Areas
- Router types
- OSPF neighbors and neighbor states (DR and BDR election)
- External Route Distribution methods (type1, type2)
- Interface cost and interface types (broadcast, NBMA, etc.)
- OSPF and multicast (problems with NBMA)
- Stub, NSSA and area ranges (route aggregation)
- Virtual links, usage and limitations
- OSPF routing filters and limitations
The full outline of everything that will be covered is dictated by MikroTik and is frequently changed to keep it up to date with the latest features of RouterOS. The latest version of the outline is located at MikroTik MTCRE Training Overview
The MTCRE Qualification:
The MikroTik Certified Routing Engineer (MTCRE) qualification is only issued upon passing the MTCRE online examination, it is not available online unless invigilated by an approved MikroTik Trainer. In order to take the examination MikroTik require the full attendance of an official training course delivered by an approved MikroTik Trainer. The training delivery and material used can be checked by MikroTik at any time to ensure a high standard is maintained and therefore the student can be assured that the qualification is of worth to any potential employer. The training material is constantly being updated as each RouterOS version is updated and therefore the MTCRE qualification is only valid for a period of three years from date of issue.
Q. Do I really need to attend a MikroTik course, can't I just learn it all for yourself?
A. Sure, of course you can - if you really have the time to learn the complexities of the MikroTik RouterOS which involves a steep learning curve. So, yes, you could just try to figure it all out for yourself but it is our belief you would benefit more greatly by attending one of our training courses instead. You will not only learn from the trainer's own personal experiences, be provided with quality training materials that you can refer to later, and walk away with gained knowledge that you can immediately use in your workplace when you return. We think it is a worthwhile investment and money very well spent.
