The Course

The MikroTik Certified Routing Engineer (MTCRE) training is a three-day advanced training course designed for network engineers and technicians focused on deploying and supporting static and dynamic routed networks, VPNs and tunnels. This course contains many practical labs to enable students to put the theory in to practice. 

The MTCRE training course aims to equip participants with the skills to plan, implement and debug routing and tunnelling technologies effectively and efficiently in a MikroTik environment. 

The MTCRE training course is constantly being updated and refreshed using the latest syllabus from MikroTik plus loads of other extra very useful topics. The MTCRE is required before taking the MTCINE Certification.

Subjects covered in this course include:

Module 1: Static Routing

  • Static route selection
  • Equal Cost multiple Path (ECMP) Routes
  • Gateway reachability check and route distance
  • Routing mark and route policy
  • Recursive next-hop and scope/target-scope usage

Module 2: Point to Point Addressing

  • Point to Point address configuration

Module 3: VPN

  • Site to site connectivity with tunnels
  • IPIP, EoIP, PPTP, SSTP, L2TP, PPPoE
  • VLAN and it's usage
  • QinQ implementation
  • VLAN and managed switch
  • VLAN and switch chip configuration on RouterBOARDs

Module 4: OSPF

  • What is OSPF?
  • How OSPF protocol works
  • Hello protocol
  • Database distribution and LSA types explained
  • OSPF network structure
  • Areas
  • Router types
  • OSPF neighbors and neighbor states (DR and BDR election)
  • External Route Distribution methods (type1, type2)
  • Interface cost and interface types (broadcast, NBMA, etc.)
  • OSPF and multicast (problems with NBMA)
  • Stub, NSSA and area ranges (route aggregation)
  • Virtual links, usage and limitations
  • OSPF routing filters and limitations

The MTCRE Qualification
The MikroTik Certified Routing Engineer (MTCRE) qualification is only issued upon passing the MTCRE online examination, it is not available online unless invigilated by an approved MikroTik Trainer. In order to take the examination MikroTik require the full attendance of an official training course delivered by an approved MikroTik Trainer. The training delivery and material used can be checked by MikroTik at any time to ensure a high standard is maintained and therefore the student can be assured that the qualification is of worth to any potential employer. The training material is constantly being updated as each RouterOS version is updated and therefore the MTCRE qualification is only valid for a period of three years from date of issue.

Student Prerequisites:

  • In accordance with MikroTik Terms and Conditions, only students who have successfully passed an MTCNA in the past will be permitted to take this Engineer Level Certification Exam.
  • Students without a current MTCNA certificate are however permitted to renew their MTCNA certifications during this training course, please click here for more info. 
  • Laptop with WiFi and Ethernet ports. If laptop is non-windows based (e.g. OSX, Linux), then Winbox must be pre installed and working before arrival.
  • Optional - RS232 console cable.
  • 2 x CAT5 cables, min length 2m each.
  • If the student is wishing to take the examination, then *Photo ID will be required to prove identity before taking the exam.

*Acceptable types of ID are equal to that required for City and Guilds exams. E.g. Passport, Photo Driving Licence, National ID Card.

Timetable
1st Day 09:00 - 17:00
2nd Day: 09:00 - 17:00
Last Day: 09:00 - 16:00
15 minute Breaks: 10:30 and 15:00
30 min Lunch: 12:30

On the last day there is an optional exam which runs for 1 hour.

Note 2: If payment has not been made at least 14 days before the commencement date we reserve the right to cancel your booking.

Note 3: Refunds - A full refund for cancellations made at least 14 days before training date, 50% refund for 8-14 days notice and no refund for 7 days notice or less.
