I had tried to cover the nooks and crannies of my thick stone walled cottage with a combination of wireless routers, ethernet over mains and wi-fi extenders. After some advice from LinITX, I took the plunge and invested in three Unifi AP (Access Point) devices and now have seemless, faster, further coverage. Lovin' it!

I bought 4 of these, 3 are wired into a Ubiquiti UniFi 8 Port 60W PoE Gigabit Network Switch US-8-60W using PoE, the other is then on wireless for the furthest part of the house. Configuring it seemed a bit tricky, I initially plugged them all in to a switch to adopt them, but couldn't get the wireless one to connect up wirelessly without resetting and re-adopting wirelessly. You cant rush it, you have to let them settle, sometimes the config takes like 3 mins to take effect which feels really slow. Now they are all connected it all works like a dream and we have perfect wifi all through the house and it has worked flawlessly for a few weeks. Seems to reconfigure nicely as you walk around zooming. We no longer ever get buffering when streaming tv, not even at the back of the kitchen or in the loft. If you have a computer running all the time, then you can have the network management server running. Otherwise, it does all work without the management app but you cant then use the app. I have a raspberry pi serving as a media server, and it runs fine on that. Pros: - Works with PoE if you want to have them ceiling mounted and dont have power - Once it is working the signal quality is brilliant - The management app is really good and lets you keep an eye on what is going on - Not having separate wifi networks makes things like sonos work so well all through the house Cons: - Trickier to configure than for example the google mesh devices - You have to have a machine running all the time to run the app on your phone

Great product, but to be honest, had great trouble getting it to work, without lots of phone help setting them up. Definitely NOT plug and play. A great product once set up

Very good AP with large capacity. Improved my WiFi hugely. Simple setup and maintenance. Wished I had the whole setup from Unifi

Enterprise grade WiFi and monitoring for the price of a consumer unit. The speed, latency, reliability and range and range blows my old router/access point of the water, and the extra added features with the UniFi Control Panel really add value. My only issue is the LED indicator ring is very bright (however it can be turned off in the software), and it makes a small amount of noise when transmitting/receiving (which is especially noticable in a dead quiet room if it's located in a corner).
